Hi, I'm Claire Beach

Founder and Lead Guide at The Wild Edge

As far back as I can remember I have been exploring ways to deepen my connection to nature. For many years it was my escape from the burnout of an intense career. My search took me on wild adventures paddling, hiking, camping & travelling every corner of our beautiful Country and abroad from the Arctic to West Africa.

With motherhood came a new sense of urgency to repair my relationship with the earth & rise rooted. To heal from the trauma in my life and have the bravery to follow my passions. This search led me to discover the practice of Forest Bathing and becoming a Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide in 2019.  I am committed to bringing this transformational practice to as many people as I can.

It is clear to me that, in order to reach the people that need this practice the most, I need to meet them where they are in schools, workplaces and community groups. Facilitating inspiring & impactful talks, programs and retreats for these groups is at the core of my mission for The Wild Edge.

Now more than ever we need to remember that WE ARE NATURE! When we slow down, unplug and connect with the Earth we come home to ourselves. We remember who we are. We find comfort and healing in partnership with the Earth. We rise rooted and create a brighter future.

Why We're Here

We are living in an age of constant uncertainty and that creates heightened anxiety and feelings of hopelessness that impact every aspect of our lives. There is one thing that is a constant source of support, beyond not just for our physical needs and that's Nature!

Through immersive experiences our Mission is to;

  • Teach people how to find rest, happiness, and thrive with nature: Common benefits are: reduce stress & anxiety, reset your nervous systems, improve our mood and focus, boosts your immune system, increase joy and creativity, find a deep sense of belonging.

  • Create active hope: Bringing people back into connection with the Earth reminds them of the resilience of Nature and fosters Active Hope. When we feel the comfort and support of the Earth it brings us joy, Love grows from joy and connection, We protect what we love.

What Guides Us

We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and comfortable environment for all to thrive. This includes taking Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) and trauma informed training and always being open to learning from others.

We strive to understand and change our colonial biases and walk with love & respect on the lands of the Indigenous People where we are blessed to live and guide.

We honour the Earth and actively seek to create opportunities for reciprocity as we connect with all our relations.

Rooted in Community

We love our community and giving back feels so good! Here are a few ways we are doing this...

"Reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians, also requires reconciliation with the natural world. If human beings resolve problems between themselves, but continue to destroy the natural world, reconciliation remains incomplete... Reconciliation will never occur unless we are also reconciled with the Earth."

- Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada 2015

Canada, Our home on Native Land

As a descendant of immigrants from all over the world, it is important for me to acknowledge the history and legacy of colonialism. It is important to acknowledge that the lands I guide on and love so dearly are not mine and that Crown Lands are stolen lands. This is part of our role in the greater work of Reconciliation.  It is important for each of us to learn, to listen and to build relationships with Indigenous communities across this beautiful country.

I begin every Nature Immersion experience with an acknowledgement of the Indigenous people that have walked the land for 1000s of years and lived in harmony with all their relations. Deep, intentional time with Nature is how we too can hold all beings with love and respect.

The areas of Ontario (Huron word for ‘great lake’ Iroquois for ‘sparking water’) that I guide on are part of Treaty 57 the ‘St. Regis Purchase’ of 1847. These lands belong to the Haudenosaunee, the Huronne-Wendat, the Mississauga and Anishinabek Nations.
